It’s the end of print books as
you know that e-books have made their place in the life of students, professors
and intellectuals. The high prices of print books have made the life of
students difficult because they do not only have to spend their money on buying
books but also on other things. As you all know that today virtual system has
been implemented in every way and same is the case with books. Print books are considered to be almost
obsolete because no matter you read e-books on Amazon Kindle Store, Barnes
& Noble – The Nook Book Store, Bookgator.com, eBooks.com etc. or not but they are selling like crazy. In fact many
authors are also offering free reads
or free first chapters on their personal websites. Both formats have their
advantages and disadvantages. Each format has something to offer, and many
readers just want some clarification on e-readers, e-books and digital pricing.
If we talk about cost benefit analysis,
it’s noticeable that cost of traditional print books are way too high than that
of print books because print books go through printing, editing and
distribution process, and due to which they incur significant costs. All of
these factors go into the final price readers paying for a print book. With the
advent of e-books, consumers and specially the students of colleges and
universities see that there is no printing and distribution involved, so obviously
they think the price of an e-book is less as compare to printed books.
To include some more importance about the topic, researchers explored
how advances in e-book technology might relate to parent-child storytelling, or
co-reading. They also found that children who read enhanced e-books recalled
significantly larger narrative details than children who read the print version
of the same story –though across all formats, youngsters performed nearly
equally when asked to explain a critical element in the story.
E-books also require publishing houses; a single book can have as many as five
editors, such as content editors, grammar editors, line editors, character
editors and final editors but the cost of all these will not be charged as high
as in printed text books. Then, you have the graphic designer. Any reader will
tell you a good cover will make him or her pick up the book. A good graphic
designer is necessary; even with e-books because the cover matters.
People who are fond of reading books used
to go and exchange books from book shops or either they used to buy those
expensive books but due to the revolution of e-books they are provided with the
platform of e-books with the help of different portals where you can easily
buy, sell, trade or swap books whenever you want. The advantage of e-books
other than saving your money also includes that you can easily store thousands
of e-books, magazines and periodicals on a single device. E-books also provide
leisure reading as the e-reader surpasses print books because it is
more convenient and actually works better. It’s hard for a student to imagine a
future with books because they are too heavy to carry from one place to another
and e-book has resolved this problem of carrying heavy stack of books and compiled
the intellectual world in a mini electronic device.
The coming generation seems simultaneously be obsessed with
leaving the old behind and recapturing the new form of data storage by
eliminating the traditionally printed word and accepting the new electronic and
digital platform.
